Sunrich Naturals has an R&D Team of Food Scientists that work hard to develop all of our products. We interviewed one of our Sunrich Naturals Food Scientists, Fransiska Anderson, to learn more about the work that she does for Sunrich Naturals and her passion for food science.
Q: What inspired you to study food science and choose a career in that field?
A: I think an interest in food in general sparked the initial interest in food science. Because food science is an applied science it combines elements of chemistry, microbiology, nutrition and a lot of other subjects. Food has always had such an importance culturally and socially, so it is a great field of study for people who have a passion for food.
Q: What do you love most about working in food science?
A: Working in an R&D lab for a food company is great because it allows you to be creative with different foods in the lab all day.
Q: How is Sunrich Naturals different from other healthy food brands and what sets it apart?
A: Sunrich Natural’s parent company SunOpta is a vertically-integrated company that specializes in Farm-to-Table healthy food products. We work with corn, soy, and sunflower with every end consumer product having traceability to the farm level.
Q: What has been your favorite project while working at SunOpta?
A: Working on the SoL Sunflower Beverage was my favorite. It was a challenging project since we were the first ones formulating a sunflower beverage, but it was such a rewarding experience. There are many people who have many allergies, and SoL became a great alternative for those allergy sufferers who wanted a non-dairy alternative that excluded the Big 8 allergens.
Q: What tips do you offer people with food allergies/sensitivities?
A: Read the ingredient panel and the packaging to see if there are any potential allergens in the ingredients. If you have questions about a specific product, a customer service representative can answer all your questions and concerns at email@example.com
Q: What are your tips that you use yourself for staying healthy?
A: The most important thing is to eat a variety of foods in moderation. There are really no bad or good foods, but moderation is key.
